Burdeos,Quezon : My Ultimate Heaven

Burdeos is a fourth class municipality in the province of Quezon.

The municipality of Burdeos is geographically located in the coastal part of Polillo Island.

The most beautiful places on the island are the mountains that form the heart of the island’s interior and the surrounding islands with its white sand beaches that compose the municipalities of Burdeos.

Burdeos has everything a person could want in an island adventure – sandbars, raw white sand beaches, clear blue water, coral reefs which can be viewed by snorkellers, and one of the island’s best adventure spots its unexplored caves. It’s as close to heaven as you can get.

Imagine the white sand beaches, colorful corals and fishes, stretches of sandbars. Sounds like a postcard, right? I'll promise, Burdeos is better than any postcard you've seen. It's a real paradise on earth. It is a place where you can forget anything and just focus on the stunning nature, this place is almost heaven in its beauty.

The islands of Polilio are now easily accessible and, therefore, it is now quite a popular destination for travelers. But the municipality of Burdeos is still off the beaten track for most travelers - most likely it is because of the road going to the town proper - And when i say its the road going to Burdeos - i mean its the bumpy two hour ride to a largely unpaved muddy and dusty road. But don't you worry, the scenic rice fields, abundant coconut trees and lush forest along the way - its a pleasant diversion from the bumpy ride. And to those willing to make the effort to come there now (via the customized jeepneys that look like the giant jeepneys bound for Pulag) will be HANDSOMELY REWARDED.

HOW TO GET To BURDEOS:

Buses/Vans have daily trips from Legarda terminal in Manila going to Ungos Port in Real, Quezon. The trip will take 3 - 4 hours via Famy-Infanta. Then you can take a boat to Anawan port or to Polillo port, they have daily trips from Real-Anawan/Polillo and vice versa. The boat ride is for 2 hours - then less than 2 hours of jeepney ride from Anawan/Polillo port to Burdeos proper.

4 Reasons Why You Should NOT Visit Jomalig

I mean it - I really mean it. DO NOT visit Jomalig for these 4 very important reasons why you might hate visiting Jomalig.

WATCHING THE SUNSETS

The most boring beach moments for me are watching the sunsets, When the sun sets each day, the position of the clouds create a spectacular painting - the colors, the calmness - it is not relaxing.

With breathtaking sunsets, golden powdery sand and crystal green blue waters, with the sunsets as its backdrop IT IS not the perfect place to relax on vacation.

LAID BACK ATMOSPHERE 

 The views, the sun, sand, the kind locals, and that blue-green water of JOMALIG will greet you upon arrival. No tall buildings, fancy restaurants and malls. You will miss the hustle and bustle that is normally associated with the metro. Internet/Phone/electricity signal is intermittent. NO hotels - Traffic noise ? there is none - mode of transportation is habal-habal only - you will most likely want to go back home right away.

GOLDEN-POWDERY SANDY BEACHES 

 The pristine waters and GOLDEN powdery sand beach of Jomalig offers a welcome sight for everybody - and this IS NOT what I expected when i arrive at the island. Golden powdery sand? YES. It is unusual and underwhelming.  Jomalig is pretty much what my dreams of a perfect beach are made of - Only it is NOT better, because ITS real.

SECLUDED PARADISE 

If your after serenity, solitude and off-the-beaten-path beaches don't go to Jomalig. Going there means disconnecting from fast-paced world.The island doesn't have a resort-studded shore - waves are the only noise that disturbs the tranquility of rural life in the island - their sheer isolation from the outside world have made them what they are today.

The Masungi Georeserve is located along the scenic road of Marcos Highway. It takes less than 2 hours from Quezon City. It is a perfect getaway for adventurers like me and the kind of experience I had at Masungi went beyond my expectations.

I had heard about Masungi through friends back in 2010, it was just casual mentions, so checking this out had landed on my "someday to do" list, until one day(february of 2015) when I decided to check out the so called 'MASUNGI rock formation", but only to find out that it is not actually Masungi but Nagpatong rock formation of Cuyambay - the part of the Georeserve( im referring to cuyambay rock formation- you can check my story here).

A minimum of seven and maximum of ten people are the best number of people to visit Masungi. The hike lasts about 3-4 hours that can be shortened or lengthened depending on your preference or pacing.

The best months to go at Masungi are during the dry seasons from November to May.

Some sights to be seen are: Tatay and Nanay, two limestone peaks, Yungib ni Ruben, a cave to seek shelter from the hot sun, Sapot, a web where you can view Laguna de Bay and Giant Duyan which serves as an observation spot for wildlife, particularly bird-watching. 

The tour is only entertained through private group bookings. (You can book online at http://masungigeoreserve.com/reservation/ )

The fee is P1000/person (Feb-March 2016), a price increase of P1400/person (April onwards) for a group of 7-10 persons. The fee includes a park ranger/guide (guide is mandatory), guest kit (helmet, binoculars, a bottled water, waterproof pouch for cellphones, a rain poncho, and a whistle) to be returned after the trek, and refreshments.

How to Get There

-Private Transport

via Marcos Highway you will pass through Masinag, Cogeo, and Boso-boso Resort.Garden Cottages -entrance- is located at Km. 45 Brgy. Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal. It is approximately 35 km. from Cubao Quezon City and only 30 to 45 minutes from Cogeo Market.

via Sampaloc in Tanay. From Manila East Road once you reaches an intersection near the town proper you need to turn left towards Sampaloc Road. 

-Public Transportation

via Cubao - Ride a van or jeepney going to Cogeo/Gate 2 (van is P35 / jeepney is P18). Get off at Gate 2 and from here look for Sampaloc jeepney terminal. Fare from gate 2 to Km 45 is P38. 

via Tanay - From Tanay town proper you can hire a tricycle to take you to Garden Cottages or ride a jeepney going to sampaloc, then look for Cogeo jeepney terminalthat'll pass by Garden Cottages.

Chasing waterfalls series : delightful morning at Bukal falls

A spontaneous plan turn out to be a success.

I was delightfully surprised with a short visit to Bukal Falls. The serenity and the spectacular view is definitely worth the hike to get to the falls. Yes, there was a short hike - but it was all worth it. It is absolutely serene and the place was fantastic.  I was so amazed when I reached the waterfall. It was so beautiful. It was also quite an adventure to swim in the very cold, clear, blue-green,deep, and calm waters amidst nature. I couldn't resist jumping in because it was just too tempting. I will say that the water was shockingly cold but I'm glad I jumped in. I will definitely be back - and maybe stay a little longer.

Bukal Falls is beautiful and If you love nature this is the place that you can reconnect with yourself. But be sure to visit it on a weekday so you can enjoy your spot at the falls.

To get there, there is a bus from LRT/Buendia or Cubao to Santa Cruz, Laguna.Once you reach Sta cruz, you can either ride a jeep bound to Majayjay and get off at Barangay Bukal or you can directly hire a tricycle and tell the driver you are headed to Barangay Bukal.

I look forward to coming here again next time. 

Gorgeous walk at Mt. Ulap and Hydro Falls

I love the pictures I have seen from people standing on the edge of a protruding rock that looked like it will break at any moment. Upon my research, I found out that the rock formation is part of the features of Mt Ulap eco-trail. I figured I had to go check it out for myself.  I had wanted to do this hike for awhile, but just never had the opportunity until recently.

7 AM

We started the hike a little later than we anticipated , got there just before 6 am. After the registration and a quick orientation the group started right away. 

The morning air was a little cooler when we started, but as the hike continued, we were definitely sweating.  It is straight uphill from the beginning - On the hike up, you could see beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, and the scenery is gorgeous right from the start to finish.

The beginning is a bit challenging- it's a little steep- but once you get to the start of the trail going to the first peak , it is easy with a little danger but with a shaded trail. 

This is a fun hike. It is moderately easy climb but with a longer trail than I expected.   Our group went at a moderate pace with some breaks. 

When we finally reached the Gungal Rock, there was a long line of people wanting to take pictures on the rock. It was a Sunday noon, so I'm sure there would be less people on a weekday. I can see why people would want to give this place a bad review due to the long line but in terms of the actual hike, it was very enjoyable and had great views almost the entire way up and down , so I would say it was worth the hike.

As we were making our way down the mountain, the trail was noticeably more crowded. Plus, it was steeper.  Coming down may have been slightly faster than hiking up the mountain, but it's also scarier because the path gets slippery, just be extra careful from the rocks and some roots jutting out. 

Here are some tips for some of you who plans to hike Ulap. 

Go early. Our group planned to start early on a Sunday. We didn't end up starting until around 7 a.m. So before it gets hot and before the trail gets more crowded start the hike early. Or i suggest Go on a weekday to avoid long lines of people.

Bring enough water and pack light. The sta fe traverse is longer than expected. From the first peak going to Gungal rock it is mostly expose to the sun. 

Take alot of pictures - we had fun with this experience and took photos. 

Reuniting with Mt. Tarak

The last time I did Tarak is back in 2011, back then it is in my head as one of my favorite hike. And, on my 3rd visit to Mt. Tarak, I reunited with my hiker cousins, Rodnie and Reynald.

We began the hike around 3:00 pm - and the sun is still out. The weather is pretty good, and the trail itself is well shaded.  It starts out slow and kind of flat before you get to the actual base of the mountain which starts from Nanay Cording's house, and from there it gets steeper.

The advantage of hiking late in the afternoon was the temperature. It was still relatively warm at 4:30-5, but not unbearably hot. In total, it took us 4 hours to hike up to the summit. 

The trail is not a peaceful getaway like I was hoping for, but it has some beautiful views.  There were a lot of people at the ridge and it almost felt like there's a party. I enjoy hiking to get away from  the buzz of the metro, so I would recommend some less traveled hikes if serenity is what you are looking for.

Top 7 Destinations That I Want to Visit Again and Again

For any traveler and nature lover, there is always that destination/place/mountain that stands out among the rest.And these destinations/places/mountains just stay in your heart and soul. They turn into something more than just a place, they become somehow a part of you.  And the reason may be the people, culture or the place itself. A few weeks ago, I decided that I needed to take a leave - I just needed to get offline for a while and take my much needed break. 1. Mt Arayat 

Before I put away my hiking shoes for good i'm going back to where it all started..Climbing Mt Arayat back in 2003 was about realizing a dream and proving to myself that I could do it. I got into the best shape of my life after completing your summit. I made a lot of new friends. I found countless hours to reflect at your summit. And I learned valuable lessons i will never forget. 2. Palaui

The Enchanted River is a lagoon-river on the island of Mindanao. It is located in Barangay Talisay, Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The setting is magnificent. Breathtaking. Enchanting. It’s blue water and otherworldly appearance is like something out of a dream. The water is really blue and clear as what my photos show. Can you believe it?

One can jump into the river for a refreshing swim or just sit and relax to enjoy its water flashing a shade of blue. The surroundings are truly beautiful. I'm not kidding when I say this place is magical. I couldn’t ask for a better experience - I surely enjoyed my time at Enchanted River.Check my Enchanted River story here.
